The Board of Trustees (BOT) is the highest decision making organ of AFRIEF. The BOT has governance responsibilities – such as financial oversight, performance review for the President/CEO and making sure the organization is on the right track. The BOT is formally assigned with the responsibility in the Bye-laws for the “governing, control and general management of the affairs, funds and property of the Foundation.” The Board provides active fiduciary oversight of finances, physical assets, and long range plans to ensure the abiding vitality of the Foundation. The BOT appoints the executive leadership of the Foundation and monitors executive performance in policy implementation. Additionally, members of the BOT are the informed ambassadors and advocates to increase external recognition and forge new connections that help sustain and increase both public and private support for AFRIEF.

The BOT has extensive networks of policy analysts and think tanks across Africa and the world. By bringing together the latest thinking from these knowledge and political networks, the BOT contributes to generating evidence-based policies that can drive the transformation of the continent. The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Foundation consists of fifteen distinguished individuals from the private and public sectors who advocate for equitable and sustainable development for Africa.

The Grand Trustee, who presides over the Board, is closely involved in the day-to-day work of the Foundation. The life experiences of members of the BOT provides them a formidable capability to access the worlds of politics, business, diplomacy and civil society at the highest levels in Africa and across the globe. As a result, the BOT functions in a unique policy space with the ability to influence diverse decision-makers in Africa and the rest of the world.The BOT supports the Foundation to build coalitions to leverage and broker knowledge and to convene decision-makers to create change in Africa.
