OUR CODE OF ETHICS
Preamble
The Africa Islamic Economic Forum (AFRIEF) is committed to promoting ethical, just, and sustainable economic development across Africa based on Islamic economic principles. All members, leadership, staff, and affiliates of AFRIEF shall uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in the execution of their duties and responsibilities.
This Code of Ethics establishes the standards of behavior, conduct, and accountability expected of everyone associated with AFRIEF.
- Integrity and Honesty
- Conduct all activities with truthfulness, fairness, and moral rectitude.
- Avoid misrepresentation of facts or falsification of data.
- Ensure transparency in decision-making, reporting, and communications.
- Commitment to Islamic Economic Principles
- Adhere to the values and teachings of Islamic Economics, including justice, equity, risk-sharing, and ethical wealth distribution.
- Reject exploitation, unethical profit-seeking, and practices that harm individuals, communities, or the environment.
- Professionalism
- Maintain the highest standards of competence, diligence, and respect in all interactions.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, research excellence, and innovation in Islamic economic practice.
- Accountability and Transparency
- Ensure responsible stewardship of AFRIEF resources, including finances, intellectual property, and information.
- Provide regular, truthful, and accurate reporting to the Board of Trustees, Secretariat, and stakeholders.
- Comply with all internal policies, procedures, and external legal requirements.
- Respect and Collaboration
- Treat colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and the public with respect, dignity, and fairness.
- Encourage collaboration and constructive engagement across cultural, religious, and professional boundaries.
- Avoid any form of harassment, discrimination, or disrespectful conduct.
- Conflict of Interest Compliance
- Disclose any potential or actual conflicts of interest immediately to the Governance & Ethics Committee.
- Recuse oneself from decisions where personal or financial interests may compromise impartiality.
- Avoid situations that could compromise the integrity of AFRIEF or its mission.
- Stewardship of Resources
- Use AFRIEF resources solely for its objectives, avoiding personal gain.
- Ensure responsible, ethical, and sustainable use of financial, human, and technical resources.
- Confidentiality
- Protect confidential information and data acquired through AFRIEF activities.
- Do not disclose proprietary or sensitive information without proper authorization.
- Advocacy and Representation
- Represent AFRIEF truthfully and responsibly in all engagements, whether with governments, institutions, media, or the public.
- Uphold the reputation and credibility of AFRIEF in all public and professional conduct.
- Social Responsibility
- Promote ethical, sustainable, and socially inclusive economic development.
- Champion the principles of Islamic Economics to support the well-being of communities and societies across Africa.
- Compliance and Enforcement
- All AFRIEF members, leadership, staff, and affiliates are expected to abide by this Code of Ethics.
- Violations will be addressed by the Governance & Ethics Committee with sanctions ranging from warnings to suspension or removal from position.
- Compliance with this Code is a condition of continued association with AFRIEF.
Adoption
This Code of Ethics is adopted and approved by the Board of Trustees and Founder of AFRIEF on the 1st of January, 2026
