Background and Rationale
The Muslim Women in History Series is an initiative designed to explore, celebrate, and amplify the lives and contributions of influential Muslim women throughout history. This quarterly event aims to bring attention to the remarkable women whose lives and legacies have shaped Islamic history, culture, and society but remain under-represented in mainstream narratives. By sharing their stories, AFRIEF intends to inspire contemporary Muslim women and the wider community to reflect on the profound impact these women had on social, political, and intellectual developments within the Muslim world.
This series also aligns with AFRIEF’s commitment to showcasing Islamic values, fostering deeper understanding of Muslim contributions to civilization, and addressing the need for gender inclusivity in historical discourse. The program will seek to educate, empower, and foster a sense of pride in Muslim heritage, while also promoting dialogue and learning across cultures.
