Overview

Africa’s livestock sector holds immense potential to transform food security, create jobs, and drive economic diversification. With one of the world’s fastest-growing populations and abundant livestock resources, the continent is uniquely positioned to become a global hub for Halal meat production, processing, and export. Despite these advantages, the sector remains underdeveloped, facing challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited investment in value-added processing, and fragmented Halal certification systems.

This virtual dialogue will convene policymakers, industry experts, investors, and development partners to explore strategies for unlocking Africa’s Halal potential. Importantly, the program aligns with key frameworks:

  • Livestock Development Strategy for Africa (LiDeSA): Supporting AU-IBAR’s vision to transform livestock for economic growth and poverty reduction.
  • Malabo Declaration (2014): Advancing Africa’s commitment to agricultural transformation, food security, and inclusive growth.
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Contributing to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
